I’ve been fortunate that Snickers let us create some truly odd and disturbing characters for their annual Halloween campaign. Characters that became so popular, the ads were re-run annually and people created their own homemade versions of the costumes.

They’re like the distant and deeply upsetting cousins to the M&M characters.

Of all the character we’ve created, the Grocery Store Lady was one of the most popular. We first realized it when we auctioned her costume for charity and it sold for $1,900. She then went on to pop up in The Onion, The New York Times, Buzzfeed and Huffington Post as well as local Halloween parties and parades.

Even Calvin Harris, one of the most famous DJs in the world (and Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend), was a fan, posting a remix of her to his ten million Instagram followers, several years after the ad ran.
